Grades & Transcripts

Grading

Grading at ESDES is based on the French educational system. The grading scale is from 0-20,
with 20 being the highest possible grade and 0 the lowest. In reality, professors rarely give grades which are higher than 16 or lower than 8. If you fall out of this range, you are really exceptional. 10 is considered a passing grade.

A rough guideline is:

20-18     Outstanding
17-16     Excellent
15-14     Good Work
13-12     Relatively Good Work
11-10     Satisfactory Work
9-8         Below the expected standard for class & school
7-6         Well below the required standard. Unsatisfactory work
5-0         Unacceptable Work

Learn more about the French culture: There is very little grade inflation in France. You get the marks you deserve. Professors will be happy to explain why you earned a particular grade, but negotiating for a better grade is unheard of in France.

Important:  There are no make-up exams for students in the IBP program who do not pass their subjects the first time or who miss the exam.

Transcripts

Transcripts are issued every semester and are sent to both the students and their home institutions. Transcripts are issued at the beginning of February for the fall semester and the end of June for the spring semester.

The grades are issued using the French system (out of 20) and the grading scale is included on your transcripts to help your university transfer the grades.
